The war is far from over. Tolucan may be dead, Malystryx may have been purified, and Zarrys may have been crowned; but that was only the beginning. Far south of Mount Ryel, nestled safely inside a stronghold of a wall, lies the majestic palace in Dedoram, a battleground that remains to be conquered. Dedoram has been left to Tolucan’s queen Fiona, and beyond Dedoram are the other cities of the nations King Tolucan conquered during his rule. The entire continent is freshly scarred from the two decades of war, and the humans will doubtfully take to the rule of an elf with kindness. As King Zarrys and his comrades make their way south, a great debate has already begun. Shunul, the greatest enemy of the new king, has put his next plan into action. Fiona is not alone in Dedoram, and Shunul knows precisely whom to attack next.

The story details Zarrys’ struggles as he must adapt to ruling, and face his own fears and doubts, not counting the challenges the enemy throws at him. Facing the challenges alongside Zarrys is his faithful bounded dragon, and each of Zarrys’ three friends has their own dragon as well. One unique aspect is that Zarrys and his wife, and their dragons, can speak telepathically due to being bonded together.

It is a well-crafted story. The villain is believable, deceived but believable. The danger feels real, and the characterization is well done. The first time I read The Elements and the Exodus I could not put it down. I would give this book five stars and recommend it for anyone who enjoys a steadily paced fantasy story with dragons, elves, and a potentially impossible to defeat villain.

The Elements and the Exodus The Kingdom Chronicles S R Ford 9781481825207 Books Reviews

This is a great book for all ages. The second in the series. An awesome read. Keep them coming Mr. Ford.
It was one of the best book I have ever read. It kept me engaged the whole time and I thoroughly enjoyed it. S.R. Ford did a great job.
So i liked this book a lot. There are some things i had trouble keeping up with. Like the words for each element. But the story moves at a good pace
I have really enjoyed reading this book series and will look forward to reading more in the series and future books by this author.
The Elements and the Exodus is a great follow up to the dawning work of S. R. Ford. Mr. Ford is able to do something that most authors don’t take the time to do, explain how the universe around his characters works in great detail. With the information given in The Elements and Exodus you can build the Vagan race from the ground up.
Zarrys is now facing the tasks of earning the trust, and trusting, the race that erased his own from the face of the planet. We are reminded that the war that he fights is not just a physical one, but is fought on two fronts. Shunul leads his army of fallen spirits against the youths that are still trying to figure their place in the world.
We see through the portrayal of the different characters ourselves very clearly in our different steps of spiritual life. Zarrys reflects those who know that there is much expected of them but keep coming back to their own faults. Fallon is proxy for those who have great potential but feel as though they are being overlooked by heaven, not to mention they feel naturally weaker than the others for one reason or another. Naminé and Kirah both try to be the women that their husbands need to keep them strong.
We are all at a war with the darkness of the world, and The Elements and the Exodus helps remind us of that while still entertaining the reader with an adventure of epic proportions.
The Elements and the Exodus picks up just weeks after The Kingdom and the Crown left off with Zarrys and company marching towards Dedoram to take the throne he has rightfully conquered. He must learn to work with humans as his allies in spite of his past venom towards their race.
He must lead a nation of two races at the tender age of 17, one of the last of his race. He must learn humility, obedience, and perhaps more importantly, to accept his role in the plans of Pukwan if he is to lead his people through the savage nature of a war against enemies they cannot fully comprehend if he is to lead them to a time of peace and prosperity.
The book truly builds on the relationships forged in the first and makes a powerful sequel. I eagerly await the third book and any other writings by Mr. Ford. His words are filled with emotion and wisdom, drawing you closer to the characters. You learn more about yourself as you learn about the characters. I consider him among the great fantasy writers.
